Shobudani is the quarry in Kyoto Japan. Mizu Asagi is the color – blue/greyAwasedo means finishing stone. Here’s a very nice very hard stone that’s fairly easy and straightforward to work with. This size is nice for hand-held or bench-top use and the near perfect rectangle shape can’t be beat. For those looking/needing/coveting wider (3”) hones, let me tell ya – 15 minutes on this baby and you won’t even notice the width and you probably won’t remember why you thought you wanted a wider stone. Just like the laste one, this slab of Kyoto’s goodness is a teensy bit harder and it feels a bit crisper under the blade. The feedback it loud and clear, no worries about missing progress here. The speed is normal, right about center of things there actually. My edges were exceptionally sharp and smooth, The bottom is fairly stable with only a barely perceptible amount of corner-to-corner wobble. The bottom is essentially flat with some nice patterning that suggests some Karasu was a neighboring layer. The sides and bottom have been sealed with Cashew Lacquer. This setup is ready to go right out of the box. Yes, the fabulous matching Tomo Nagura is included. Very approximate average specifications6.1 x 2.1 x 0.5\
