Vintage French Instrument Case, 1940s, Unlined, Flute Case, Clarinet Case, Piccolo Case
A very nice vintage 1940s travel case, probably for travelling with a small musical instrument, such as a flute, clarinet, recorder, etc. It seems to be made from some sort of compressed fibre, which I am at a loss to identify, but I have seen cases made from the same or similar material dating from the 1940s and 1950s. I remember my own parents owning several! It is a rigid material and has a very nice outer covering which is stitched. The best description is the visual one, so please refer carefully to the photos by using the zoom feature. Please note that the colour is more cream and brown than the grey tone showed n the photos. The case has two metal hinged closures and a red metal and silver carrying handle. On the interior, it is lined by a cream and red patterned paper. The previous owner has inscribed their name on the lid but I am unable to decipher it exactly but looks like ‘Sylvaine Filleau’. The case measures 16 3/8 inches (41.5 cm) in length x 5 2/8 inches (13.5 cm) in width x 3 2/8 inches (8 cm) in depth. Weight is 380 grams. It’s in a great vintage condition; a lovely little 1940s case which could have many uses as well as using it for transporting musical instruments (for storage of makeup, toiletries, bathroom items, stockings, scarves, etc.) I am happy to combine shipping if there is another item in my shop you would like to purchase.
