10. Hunters Specialties Super Mag Lift System with Magnum Gambrel
As Bob writes: “ Most of it is pretty darn heavy “. One confident reviewer writes, “ Good enough. “. Lots more comment, with Crazy Infidel explaining, “ All Chinacrap parts. But it’ll probably work. “.
I did not buy this for hanging deer. I built a 9’x8′ shelf in my garage and established it at about 4.5 feet so a car’s nose could go under it, but there would still be sufficient room to store meaningful items on top of it (like snow blowers, lawn mowers, generators, etc…). The problem is getting the seasonal equipment onto the shelf. Most of it is pretty darn heavy. I initially looked into some block & tackle systems but was shocked at the prices for what I considered very modest quality. I finally settled on this as a lift system. I was about a third the cost of the cheapest block & tackle and better quality. I use the hangar part that you affix the deer legs to as the lifting hook and bolted the rest to the ceiling just a few inches out from the shelf. Using this

Nice little system. I purchased mine to use as a light duty hoist to aide in hoisting and holding a rooftop cargo box up to the ceiling of my garage. At that it performs splendidly. The cable brake system is nice and simple. It pinches the rope to hold it in place. This is not something I would set and expect to leave holding a load for an extended period of time. But it will definitely do the trick to hang on to the cable for a short while. I really like the included carabiner shackles that are present on both ends of the hoist. These clips have a notched but not quite locking gate. I expect they are up for the task. The gambrel attachment, while not anything for which I have a use, appears to be well made and capable of handling what a weekend hunter might throw at it. The only thing
Good enough.
2 Stars and barely. Packaged arrived in two days and in good shape. Unboxed and opened up the product. Attempted to use the pulley and it didn’t work. Looks like the guy in China who put this together didn’t give a crap that day and the ropes were threaded in a crossing manner which only jammed the tool up. So I spent the next half-hour figuring out how to thread the block and tackle as I haven’t done it before and the ‘brake’ complicated things. Pissed me off a bit. Of course NO DIRECTIONS on how to thread the rope. Finally got it right and the brake works. During this I got to inspect the product. Crap. Plastic pulley wheels, soon to break I’m sure. The blocks are pinned shut so replacing the pulley’s or rope is going to be a major hassle. Ultimately I’ll grind out the
