I love wreaths. They are a great way to decorate both inside and outside. I use wreaths quite a bit for seasonal decorating but I also have a few that are up year round. Wreaths add not only color but dimension to a wall or door. Now that it is almost summer, I’m thinking about another wreath for my door. As you know, I really like the country or farmhouse style. As I was browsing Pinterest (what else?), I saw quite a few nautical style wreaths with rope. The color and texture of the sisal rope intrigued me so I decided rope was the medium I would use but instead of nautical, I would do a country twist. I grabbed an old wire wreath frame that I had picked up at a thrift shop and sprayed it an off white or almond color.  I wanted it to blend in with the rope I was using.  I went with the natural sisal that I picked up at the local hardware store. I was planning on weaving the rope around the frame rather than just wrapping it to give it some dimension. Once the paint was dry, I cut my rope into shorter sections to make weaving easier. My package of rope was 50ft so I cut it into 3 lengths. I didn’t measure, just eyeballed it into the three lengths. I left a 3-4 section along the back and tied it to the wreath form with some twine. Starting with the inside edge, I simply wove the rope under and over and around the edges back and forth until the entire wreath form was covered. I cut the rope in long lengths to make the weaving process easier. I took the rope and began weaving it in and out of the rings of the wreath. Once the wreath was done, I went back and hot glued the end pieces to the back of the wreath. However, when I first began, I didn’t think just gluing to the form would hold. Thus, the twine. I also used a length of twine to us
e to hang it by. The rope is a bit stiff but I actually thought that helped a little in the process. However, every once in a while I had to twist or, rather, untwist the rope to make it more pliable for the weaving. When I came to the end of the rope length, I tied or glued it to the back. I used sisal twine for the wreath hanger. If you would like to make this wreath, here is what you will need: 1 18 wire wreath form with 4 rows of wire 1 50′ packages of 3/8 sisal rope A few strings of sisal twine for tying and to use as a hanger. Hot glue for gluing ends. It took me just a few hours to complete. If you don’t get distracted, it may take you less time. Now, all I have to do is embellish it with something country and hang Here are some things to think about when doing this project: Wear eye protection. The bits is sisal were flying everywhere. You don’t want a piece of that rough stuff in your eye! Don’t do the project in your living room right after you have vacuumed. Again, the sisal bits were all over me, the couch, the carpet, the cat….everything. I should have done the work at a table. (I finished the project outdoors the next morning. Use some of the hot glue to seal the ends of the rope. I didn’t do that when I first started and the rope end began to unravel as I was weaving. Don’t do the project around your cats or you will have to constantly be prying a cat off your rope! Or, cut a small piece of rope just for the cat so he will leave you alone to your project. Don’t be surprised if the rough rope scratches or rubs some of the paint off the wreath form. I liked having it look chippy but you can always touch it up after you are done with a small brush or your finger. I hope you will give this a try. It is an easy project and will go with many different décor. It will also do just as well outside as indoors. Send me some pictures if you try it!
