Brian H. calls this “ Modified Usage for 4.25″ Extinguisher “. “ Simple and effective to install and use… ” one person writes. Another concludes, “ The bracket is on the light side “.

I use this mount on a 4.25 inch diameter fire extinguisher (Badger model 5MB-6H), a 5lb dry chemical. Before purchasing, I knew that this mount was not designed for this product. However, I purchased it anyway with the intention of making the modification. The mount is mounted in the trunk of my vehicle. I previously had two fire extinguishers get”activated” in my trunk, so it was definitely time to get a real mount, stop losing money on extinguishers, and stop having to clean up the mess. See”customer images” on this product for pictures of my modifications. I made the”neck” of the mount a bit wider with pliers and a drill along the inside of the neck. I then made the metal bracket hold this smaller extinguisher with use of rubber electrical tape (Scotch Linerless Electrical Rubber Tape, .75-Inch by 15-Foot). It’s a bit thicker than standard electrical tape.

Modified Usage for 4.25″ Extinguisher

I got this unit to secure a fire extinguisher in my car. It’s easy to set into place and secure the extinguisher once the mount bracket with strap is fixed. I decided to opt for a 5 pound extinguisher since the smaller 2 pound ones will do little to prevent a blaze if you’re able to access it in the first place. I’d been in one car that caught ablaze and the Good Samaritan that tried to help couldn’t do much with their smaller extinguisher. I think the car and myself would have suffered less if they’d had something like a 5 pound unit on hand, and that’s why I decided to get one for myself. Granted, I really don’t want to be in a situation where I would need to use the extinguisher in the first place, but it’s good to know I have one and that it’s secured

Simple and effective to install and use…

The metal in the bracket is on the light side and the length of the bracket between the neck of the extinguisher and the band that secures the extinguisher to the bracket is very short. This causes the extinguisher to wiggle on the bracket instead of being solidly fixed to the bracket like brackets that are longer in length. That being said the bracket probably will do the job although I will reserve my final opinion until I see how it holds up under use and on back country roads. This is a vehicle mounted extinguisher.
